Process
1) Begin by considering the following question written by CT4ME:

What is the educational need, problem, or gap for which use of new media might potentially enhance learning?

Possibly you know it without looking over your syllabus. If not go through all your designed learning activities and consider that question.

2) Use the Planning for Integration (doc) Worksheet. See a sample (doc)

3) Also consider how you envision the technology to be used. Do you want technology to:
(statements adapted, with permission, from CT4ME)

  • assess students' prior knowledge and either provide the instructor with relevant information about students' knowledge and skill level or provide help to students in acquiring the necessary prerequisite knowledge and skills
  • enhance students' organization of information
  • actively engage students in purposeful practice that promotes deeper learning
  • provide frequent, timely, and constructive feedback
  • help students acquire the skills of selective monitoring, evaluating, and adjusting their learning strategies
  • adjust to students' individual differences

4) Consider the Possibilities

  • Penn State offers these ideas (every where it says Angel substitute WebCT which is our LMS)
  • Web 2.0 Technologies
  • Consider Educause's 7 Things You Should Know technologies
  • Browse the Resources for Technology Integration suggestions
  • Consider these "exemplary" Instructional Design Goals when Integrating Technology *adapted with permission from CSU Chico Rubric:
    1. Course uses a variety of technology tools to appropriately facilitate communication and learning.
    2. New teaching methods are applied and innovatively enhance student learning, and interactively engage students.
    3. A variety of multimedia elements and/or learning objects are used and are relevant to student learning throughout the course.
    4. Course optimizes Internet access and effectively engages students in the learning process in a variety of ways throughout the course
    5. Course offers ample opportunities for interaction and communication student to student, student to instructor and student to content.
    6. Learning objectives are identified and learning activities are clearly integrated.
    7. Course provides multiple visual, textual, kinesthetic and/or auditory activities to enhance student learning.
    8. Course provides multiple activities that help students develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
5) Establish your "next steps"
